SUMMARY:Richard Marshall - Exhibition of Pastels
DESCRIPTION:Richard Marshall is a Sussex-based artist\, lecturer and demonstrator specialising in oil and gouache paintings\, as well as pastel works of landscapes\, seascapes and still lifes. \nA member of the Pastel Society since 1983\, Richard has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions internationally\, as well as in London and Sussex. His work is held in private collections across the UK\, Europe\, and North America. \n Inspiration and method \nRichard’s work is driven by a love of colour\, texture\, form and the possibilities of paint. He works mainly with chalk and oil pastels\, combining them with watercolour\, gouache and oil paint on paper and board. \nHe builds his paintings in layers\, using white spirit\, distilled water\, gum-arabic and handmade paints and pigments to create rich colour and texture. Working mainly from life\, Richard often develops several paintings at once\, allowing each to evolve through observation and experimentation. \nHe continually reworks and adjusts his paintings\, believing that the image grows through the process of making. \nBiography \nJanuary 1943 — Born in Goring\, West Sussex \n1966-1969 — Studied Fine Art at West Sussex College of Art \n1969-1972 — Studied under William Cartledge RI RSMA \n1973-1989 — Studied under Gyula Sajo\, former Professor of Applied Art and Architecture at the Budapest Academy\, Hungary \n1983 — Elected to the Pastel Society \n  \nArtworks \n\nBluebells\nSpringtime – Highdown Gardens\nPlace du Tertre – Montmartre \nBoats at Birdham\nStill Life with Shells\nChichester Cathedral\nGrand Canyon and Colorado River\nArundel Park in Winter\nBoats at Littlehampton\nSunflowers\nRoad to Highdown\nStill Life with Fruit\nArundel Castle from road to Burpham\nBring me Sunshine\nThe Flats – Bermuda\nStill Life with Strelitzer – Tenerife\nRain Shower – Pembrokeshire\nGrand Canyon Arizona – My Trip by Mule\n\n  \n \n
